in Target Deals

Hello Targeteers!

I’ve covered this info before but for the newer Targeteers and as a refresher, I am covering this info again. With the holidays coming up, I wanted to prompt your memory.

Who doesn’t want the most fantastic deal possible? If I can leave Target feeling like I robbed them legally I am the hap, hap, happiest. There are a few things you can do to get rock bottom deals with minimal homework. Here are some of the ways I ferret out the best deals.

Deal Beacon – Bookmark this site. You can visit here to see what items are on clearance or will be in your store soon. All stores are not on the same schedule but they are within 1-3 weeks. You’ll have to be cautious of a store either being on track with site, ahead or behind. There is no way to know without shopping your store. I just print the list and take it with me.

SchumanFamily Markdown Info: Another site that has the Target Markdowns listed including the DCPI number (stock number).

Target DCPI ONLINE Stock Checker by Zip Code: Check to see if your store has an item in stock from home. Save time and gas. If you are in the store, you can use the scanners that have a number pad. This is an old post, but it explains how to do this in the store.
Target Clearance Markdown Schedule:

-Mon. — Electronics, Kids Clothing and Stationary (Cards, GiftWrap, etc.)
-Tues. — Domestics, Women’s Clothing, Pets and Market (food items)
-Wed. — Men’s Clothing, Toys, Health and Beauty, Lawn & Garden items
-Thur. — House Wares, Lingerie, Shoes, Sporting Goods, Movies, Music, Books, Decor and Luggage
-Fri. — Auto, Cosmetics, Hardware, & Jewelry

Markdowns occur every 2 weeks. Target will typically mark down unsold clearance merchandise every two weeks. If you are watching an item and see that it has been marked down 30 or 50 percent, come back in another two weeks to see if it has been marked down further.

Know how to read markdown stickers. These are the orange stickers on clearance items. Original price at the top right corner plus a code: 15A, 30A, etc. Example: 15A is 15%.

Damaged Items: If an item is damaged, and you can repair or live with it, ask for a discount. Cashiers are authorized to give you a 10% discount.

Keep your receipts. This year Target adopted a new and more strict return policy which limits the number of returns you can make without a receipt. However, there is a way around this. The store tracks every credit card purchase. If you can remember which credit card you used for your purchase, the store can look up the transaction by simply swiping your card and scanning the item. Once they find the transaction, they will allow you return the item without the physical receipt. Team members may not offer this option, so you may have to ask for them to look up the item by the credit card number. With a receipt, Target will adjust the prices on items that go on sale (not clearanced) within 14 days of the purchase.

Shop Endcaps: Some of the best deals are on the end of the aisle. Be sure to take your coupons with you to really rack up the savings in the grocery and HBA sections!

Shop the perimeter: Walk along the aisles near the walls and this way you are able to see all of the endcaps and down most of the aisles to find the clearance, markdown and sale items.

Target Coupon Policy: Go here and print and take a few copies with you. There is more than just policy to print here so you may want to scan through and be familiar with some of the info. As you may know, Target does a poor job in training their managers and employees on their own coupon policy. You MAY stack a Target coupon on top of a manufacturer coupon so long as you follow the small print. I printed a couple of copies of the policy and put in my coupon binder.

And…don’t forget to take your ad and coupons after you have visited the ATS Coupon Match-up for the week.
