That is a new policy for me to hear. Great info, so here is hoping that at least a majority of the stores will honor this. Thanks for sharing!

My Target is great. I have not run in to problems with them not going by the policy. I am in there way to much too.

I always put my manufacture ones first though.

As a matter of fact the managers told me about another policy...I was shocked by. Up to 90 days after you buy an item, you can bring back the receipt to add on a "missed" coupon. I was shocked. 3 managers told me though!!! Cheers to target! I found this out because yesterday the bulk items went up for clearance and I had coupons at home for many of them, which would make these bulk items that were 50% off even a better deal! The manager said, just buy this stuff now, and bring back the coupons!!!

It's sad that all targets can't be like mine in Iowa. It's my favorite place to shop! I am not sure if the policy is nation wide or store by store????

So glad you made it back and spent way more than 4 cents in gas to get your bargain. You are right. It was all about how it was handled. I'm glad that some child will have a nice gift later this year thanks to your efforts. I too have an 8 year old grandson (and one 6) and neither of them would appreciate a doll. :) :)

Thanks for letting me know you got the doll! :)

Update! I got my doll. I marched in there this morning, and with a no nonsense attitude, I politely but firmly pointed out to the cashier the wording on the Target coupon policy. Mind you, the poor guy, ( a different one today) was terrified I think. I don't need the doll, the only small child we have is my eight year old grandson, who would probably not appreciate it. (I know, he's soooo ungrateful, lol) But this is how my daughter and I get together our christmas donations to Toys 4 Tots, and United Way, plus I didn't like the way the whole thing was handled. I told him to keep that copy, as I had plenty, and share it with guest services. I also sort of led him to believe I had called corporate, but I figure that going on their website to print out a copy of the policy is sort of the same as contacting them, no?

I guess I will NEVER understand why we Targeteers are Target Corporation's trainers. We don't get paid to do the job they never accomplished. You are completely right OF COURSE! And, to save face, you can bet I have never read any report of the first Target employee doing the right thing. Never once picked up the phone to call corporate guest services, go to the coupon page and read it or print it and as you say, "katy bar the door" if they ever let 4 cents walk out the door.

Actually, they would make 4c since they get paid face value of the coupon PLUS 8c for processing! Coupons are NEVER viewed as cash lying in the cash drawer. You can bet they will quibble, argue and FIGHT over whats on the register tape. They waste more than 4c in payroll just walking over to say "NO"!

Arrrggghhhh! I got up this morning, and drove over to my nearest Target, Iin the middle of an ice shower) and was SO excited to find the Baby Alive dolls! I loaded up two and picked up a couple of other things, and went to check out. The cashier would not take my coupons, because...you guessed it, they were more than the item. I tried to get him to adjust it down, no dice! He said that was 'coupon fraud'. I did not purchse the dolls. I went to customer service, no satisfaction there either. "Thats just the way the system is set up" I was told. I even asked them to adjust the price of the dolls to the whole five bucks, and they refused. Of course, I did not have my copy of the Target coupon policy with me. I'm not going back out today, as it is still showering ice, and I'm not willng to risk it for this freebie, but in the mornin' "Katy, bar the door!" because I will be back, with policy in hand. Thats IF the dolls are still available. I was so aggrevated, are they really willing to risk an unhappy customer for a lousy FOUR CENTS??? Okay, thanks for letting me vent!

Hi Abigail! Great question about what to do when you are stacking coupons for your purchases at Target. I just spent an hour researching for the perfect answer for you. Believe it or not, no matter what search string I use, nothing appeared about which coupon to use first.

I am always happy with my Target store. I stack up the items from my cart onto the belt and hand the cashier ALL of my coupons. Thankfully I have never had a problem at all. ::knock on wood:: Logic tells me that if you use manufacturer's coupons first that it is unlikely that a cashier would turn down their own coupons. Additionally, if you think about how the coupons credit the store, should a coupon need to be reduced because the product is cheaper than value of the coupon, you would reason that since they don't get reimbursed for their own coupons they'd rather reduce those.

Manufacturers coupons reap a bountiful face value plus 8c each (generally) while the Target coupons are written off as a loss/markdown/advertising (whatever acct they stick it in). Logically the store would make more if you presented the mfg coupons first.

For those of you who have stores with no coupon training, what do you find is best to use first? Target coupons or manufacturer coupons?
